Black resigns. Very nicely played. It was a fun game to play for quite a while but I never quite equalised and 25.Nd4 and 26.Rad1 were big surprises I didn't see that helped your pieces occupy strong positions, and after that it just gradually got worse and worse.

I was just playing for swindles quite a way out from the end (even in freestyle I suspect they can still sometimes happen) and what I was trying for is that after 54.Ba3 exf3 55.exf3, if Black can swap off the g-pawn for the f-pawn then the knight can be given up for the c-pawn, and KBP vs KP if the two pawns are those h-pawns appears to be a draw (even though it is the right-colour bishop). I didn't actually look that much at 54.fxe4 (F11 takes a long long time to realise it is better) and was a bit surprised when it turned out to be so utterly lost (54...Nxe4 55.Kh3 Nf6 56.Kg3 zugzwang for example).

I'll think about the draw offer in the other one for a few days; I could play on to try to square the match but it's a very tedious and fiddly position and I'm not finding anything at all promising in it at the moment.

I agree! (though I have less insight into the game) Hard to win those sorts of positions in freestyle.

Was surprised to see the resignation at this point in time. I was having to spend quite a bit of time trying to get more than about +3. I analysed a couple of lines where I was plus 4, but the resulting six man ending was drawn. So that complicated matters and meant I could not rely just on the engine output and my judgement about what gave best chances.

On the final couple of moves in the game, I think 53. c6 Ne8 gave better chances to draw and this is where most of my analysis was focused.

KBP v KP is a 5 person tablebase position.

Yes - I am not optimistic that ..Ne8 draws by force but it puts up much better resistance. It was unfortunate I didn't look closely at 54.fxe4 and simply assumed that it was no big deal if you played that move, without checking it out more thoroughly. The less obstructive position of my king after ...Ke6 has dire consequences in every line I looked at and things spiral out of control very rapidly once I start entering moves in.
