Why isn't the tournament data changed back to original?
Or are you saying the original was wrong? Meaning the results did not match those on the signed scoresheets?
If the original data was correct, and had been changed, aren't you now progressing with erroneous tournament results?

If reverted to original, wouldn't the pairings of the latest round be identical and unchanged?

    Am I missing something obvious...

The pairings for round 2 were made and published using the correct results and pairings for round 1, then the pairings and results for round 1 changed or were altered. Round 2 was played, the results entered and the pairings for round 3 made and published before questions were raised about those pairings and the alterations were discovered during the investigation. A backup copy of the first round and the round 2 draw was used to produce the new correct pairings for round 3.

    Wow, any suspects?

Were the files edited at a time when many people were around, or was the place empty? What will happen when you catch the person responsible? I haven't heard of anything like this happening before!

(Is it possible someone thought they were doing some harmless changes, rather than having malicious intent?)

Did they ever catch the person who stole all of Scott Colliver's kings that time?

I don't think the king thief was ever caught, though the kings were eventually returned.

We ran the Aus Junior after that one and we were utterly paranoid of a repeat that could easily ruin our tournament. We were searching the hall thoroughly every night when we locked up to make sure no juniors were hiding inside. Only at the end of the event did we realise there had been a side door that had been unlocked and unlockable all the time and that a prospective piece thief could have hidden anywhere in the building and still got in had they known the way.

The Knave of Hearts was suspected but the police were unable to find sufficient evidence to prosecute. Which was unfortunate as they still had egg on their faces after the Humpty-Dumpty fiasco.

Suspect it was someone experimenting with the program.
Arbiter and organiser paranoia is now rampant.
Normally this cannot happen as most of our events are run from the arbiters personal laptop and the association computers are only there as backup.

“A wise prince will seek means by which his subjects will always and in every possible condition of things have need of his government, and then they will always be faithful to him.” — Niccolo Machiavelli (1469–1527), Il Principe (The Prince)

A wise prince will also realise that this can be achieved more successfully by means other than rape, pillage, greed, lies, deceit or misinformation.
