The Lidums Australian Allegro or should it be renamed the Mark Chapman benefit tourney - he has won it so many times - has again been successful with lots of entries. Thanks Roland and other helpers for organising this - I know it doesnt just happen so WELL DONE! This tourney is an end of year celebration for the SA chess community with many folks only playing in this one chess event for the year.

    kindest Regards
    George Howard

    To a memorable 2009 ...

It would have to be one of the most family friendly tournaments in Australia with the beach and attractions only 50m away.

Newly available on the SACA website is 'one dozen memorable games'. This eclectic mix of 12 sparkling games celebrates a successful chess year. Mark Chapman has two of his games in the list.
    Enjoy!

    Australia Day Rapid 2010

    Tuesday 26th January 2010

    5 Rounds, Swiss Draw

Players please support this tournament and encourage our coaching organizations to support our events.

Mato Jelic has entered with the hope he gets some of his money back. We cannot let that happen can we?

Avoid the late entry fee. Get your entries in now and save!

Of course you can always leave it to the day, that way we make more money.

For some strange reason all the players thought they were playing Blitz, so much so that round five [Supposedly the final one] finished before it was due to start! Decided to play extra bonus round for the same money! [We always try to give value for the dollar]. Top seed Alistair Cameron not surprisingly seemed a little chessed out after Hobart and second seed Edgar Mdinaradze suffered a nasty shock in round 5, losing to George Vuckov [rated 1130] but recovered in round 6 to win the tournament on his own.

SACA and all the players thank Mato Jelic of Chess School SA www.chessschoolsa.com.au for his kind sponsorship of this event!

Warning!! It is recommended that players do not leave it until a few minutes before the tournament starts, to enter [This seems to be common practice]. You may miss out!
