$3000 prizes for the Open Tournament, with $1000 for 1st place
Nearly $1000 in prizes for U1600

FIDE Open: First Round on Friday 6th of July at 7:00 p.m
Under 1600: First Round starts at 9:00 a.m on Saturday Morning 7th of July

FIDE Open is FIDE and ACF Rated with 90 minutes + 30 Second a move, while U1600 is ACF Rated 60 minutes +10 second a move

6 Round Swiss tournament, U1600: 3 Rounds on Saturday on Sunday
Open:1 Round on Friday Night, 3 Rounds on Saturday and 2 Rounds on Sunday

Players are allowed 1 1/2 point bye for both tournaments in Round 1-5

I realise the difficulty of the 3 rounds on Saturday for the Open Tournament. There were however many things we had to take into account, such as this not being a long weekend, giving players who don't have a FIDE Rating a better chance to get one and not going too far for the Sunday Night. SA hasn't had FIDE Weekend Tournaments for a long time, but we're happy to have it nonetheless and of course review what we can do in future.

Very happy to announce that GM Max Illingworth and IM Trevor Tao will be playing the Open tournament.

Final Results of the Inter-club can be found on our website

Congratulations to the A grade winners Matsions (who won it a long time ago) and
B Grade winners West Torrens who scraped home by half a point

Any reason that "The Checkmate Weekender Torunaments" don't have a separate thread?

Any torunament that has a $1000 first prize is often good to have a separate thread so that it is noticed more easily.

Interstate patzers don't often look at the SA news - at least, I probably wouldn't if I didn't live here...and some more might be interested in coming for the unusually high prizes if they noticed it mentioned in a separate thread under "Upcoming and Current Torunaments".

Just a thought - keep up the good work, you've all done very well!

(And well done to Matsions as well, in passing) [I can be bold on here as it's anonymous so no one can possibly know who I really am].

On the simple basis, that I didn't really think about it It really didn't occur to me to do that, I've just gone into "auto" mode and put all stuff on the SA Chess Results page.

I agree, I'll take into consideration for any big tournament as well (Note I'm saying I, considering I seem to be the only regular poster here, for a long time.

I do see some interest from time to time, from accounts, which I assume come from interstate, but I tend to agree with this comment as well.

Considering you used "patzer" and you're a South Australian, I can hazard a guess who this is

Unfortunately GM Illingworth has had to withdraw from the tournament, due to significant illness. The announcement was made today, in hopes that he would be able to recover enough, but unfortunately that was not the case.
Both SACA and Max sincerely apologise to everyone playing the Open Tournament.
We thought it would be best to announce now, then people turn up later and wonder what happened.
We wish Max the best of luck for the rest of the year, especially his Olympiad campaign and hope he'll be able to play an SA tournament one day.

A strong and great field this year with the Checkmate Fide Tournament! Round 2 starts at 9am, with the Checkmate Challengers coming in at 9.30am. The field for that event has been growing as well, shaping this weekend up to be one of SACA's biggest!
