    Brisbane Chess around 1900.

Around the year 1900 there were quite a few chess clubs in Brisbane participating in inter club matches. These included, Woolloongabba, Eagle Junction, Ipswich, West End, Church Institute, School of Arts, Ithica, Toowong, Sandgate, YMCA and Brisbane. The Chess Association of Queensland was formed in 1897, so presumably they arranged the inter club fixture. Occasional matches were arranged with Gympie and Toowoomba chess clubs and there were also inter colonial telegraphic matches. They seemed to have been rather a jovial bunch of men but no mention of junior chess or the ladies.

The Brisbane Chess Club seems to have changed venue very often and was reformed a few times.
