    Thanks for the game.

Clearly you had the better end of that draw. 4...Bc5 is a rather "different" line which is covered briefly in Watson's 3rd edition. Thought I'd try it, not because I have any problems with the main KIA lines but just for something a bit different. Maybe my 10...f6 was dodgy and I should have played 10...Bc7 because after 12.c4! I soon realised that I had quite a few little problems to deal with, and my bishop ended up looking pretty silly for a while.

I still don't know if you missed anything nastier or if my position was just hard work without being all that dreadful.

I'm glad you tried it. I actually only played 1.e4 to get your take on the KIA. I don't usually play it, but play the French for Black. 4...Bc5 is very interesting. At first it looks counter-intuitive, but there is no obvious way to break it down. It was an interesting game. I think I learnt a lot from it. Thanks.

Well, I was a bit of a 'fish out of water' in this game. It wouldn't surprise me if I had something better, but I just couldn't find it. I certainly seemed to have a small advantage, but all lines seemed to see the advantage peter out into equality. I think moves like ...Ra7! would be hard to find OTB. I think perhaps in a weekender, Black might have saced that pawn for activity and White might go on to win. I thought you played well, and earnt the draw.
