    Australian Chess Podcast

Hello, this is a recorded radio show about Australian Chess, hosted by me.

This is really an experimental idea and I expect things to be scratchy early on but the more feedback I get, the better it can become. I hope to make it a regular segment.

You can download it here by clicking the link then clicking on Download for free then on Click here to begin your download. (apologies for lack of direct link, but it's a late hour and couldn't organise direct hosting).

    It's a 10 minute .mp3 format (about 4MB) that covers:

    -Intro and ideas
    -Kramnik v. Topalov
    -ACCF (links on TCG)
    -Chess Sponsorship
    -Arianne Caoili
    -BB environments
    -A surprise!
    -Farewell (and opening theory?!)

Anyway it's the first time I've ever done a radio show, so hopefully it can only get better, hope you enjoy it and your comments are most welcome, on this thread or by email.

Cool. But you have to find a better, more user friendly host. It took me a little while to find those links. It's easier to download porn man.

Entertaining and balanced, you reminded me of all the good things about the online environment (and we do need reminding). Thanks Dion - count me as a fan.

Great work Dion. Maybe you should send this demo pod to Adam Spencer!?

Oh btw, I recommend this site: www.odeo.com. There is an online studio for podcasting. I tried it before and it's great.

    Thanks guys!

Btw, Amiel I tried that odeo site but it won't let me upload the file. If anyone can point me in the direction of a free direct link file host that would make it easier for you all to download then that'd be great.

It has to be said ... Dion, you have a great head for radio/podcasts!

Not bad for a first effort ... not so sure about the Star Trek inclusion, but some may like it.

Couldn't get the download to happen. Please let me know when the direct link gets up. Look forward to listening after so many good reports.
There is no cure for leftism. Its infestation of the host mostly diminishes with age except in the most rabid of specimens.

The link still works fine for me - if you follow the instructions in the first post it should still be ok for download. Hopefully I can organise a direct download soon!

OK, I figured it out! I managed to load this onto Odeo. It's currently in my stream. Do I have your permission to post this on the blog purely for the purposes of demonstration?

    Thanks,

I have a little experience with radio having been a guest or guest presenter on a number of shows over the years.

You have an excellent radio voice and make good use of stresses on words and variation in tone. The coverage is informative and would in my view be engaging for someone only lightly familiar with the material. While opinionative in places it is relatively restrained and neutral and I don't think anyone would see it as unfair.

The info about Sweeney being banned from "official" tournaments is a tad vague. He's banned from NSWCA and ACF run events but there are many rated events in NSW that are not NSWCA events in which Matt can still play.

When you say "ACF" or "ACCF" try to pronounce the A and the C distinctly, otherwise "AC" sounds like "SE". Also some of your sentences ramble a little bit from point to point.

All in all, very good first effort.

Yes Amiel, that'd be great. BTW, is there anything you did differently to me when trying to upload the file?

OK, I will post your podcast. If you saw my Pronunciation post today, then your podcast will look exactly like that. None of this downloading business.

As I don't know what you did (or didn't do) I don't know if I did anything different. But basically, I have an account on Odeo. Then I created a podcast. One option is to upload an already pre-recorded MP3 file.

I think I know what happened to yours. Go back to your account. Then click on 'Saved audio'. I bet that you did actually managed to upload successfully.
