I've only just come across this thread - I would have voted for the Belgariad. Dragonlance second. Thomas Covenant last by a long way. I've read 8 of the Series listed.

Awww Nice, Sprouty is even slower than Elephants in responding to this awsome thread.

Dragonlance Series is the one that sprouty would vote for if giving a chance. Tracie Hickman does wonder work

All I can say is that it seemed like a good idea at the time.

One could argue that like federal politics, such polls should be redone every three years or so. Perhaps you or Mischa or a collaboration would like to do the honours.

From memory the way is was done back then, there was a thread calling for nominations and after a couple of weeks I then created the poll for voting. People could vote for as many series as they liked. Of course a new poll doesn't necessarily need to follow this process.

Can't you just re-open the poll?

Or, if there is sufficient interest in new Sci Fi / Fantasy novels, open a new poll, with a pointer back to this one?

Yes. Indeed I can reopen this poll so that it is open indefinitely, or so that it closes on any day up to 01-07-2034, which is 10200 days after it started.

Not sure why that figure but my guess is that the software is trying to guess how long it will take George RR Martin to finish his series.

A release date of 12 July has been announced for the notoriously delayed fifth volume in what is intended to be a seven-volume series.

England just beat South Africa, I think that makes the world cup the greatest fantasy series ever.

..If you're good at Chess it means you are very intelligent and could potentialy do great things
..... but that you might have wasted that playing way too much chess

Game of Thrones has been made into a TV series on HBO and I have seen amazingly good reviews, looking forward to seeing it.
