    Am I the only smoker?

Disgusting habit. Agreed. My biggest regret to date. Going to have another shot at giving up soon. Am I alone? I'd like to know the profile of this BB. Gaaaaaaaarn. Please click.

There is no cure for leftism. Its infestation of the host mostly diminishes with age except in the most rabid of specimens.

1 year, 8 months, 14 days, 12 hours, 7 minutes, and 59 seconds. And in every one of those seconds every molecule in my lungs craved the rush of a single draw.

No, just kidding. It was quite easy for me after about 6 weeks.

The cigarette was a Camel and was positiviely disgusting!

Nevertheless, having taken the ciggie from another player, and not wanting him to think he wasted it on me, I smoked the whole thing.

The next day my lungs were really tender and I had a sore throat.

    Final Analysis: Smoking sucks!

Just do what I do when trying to look cool at a party...don't inhale.

I think I will just let the losers smoke from now on WE. On top of sore lungs I also smelled and couldn't get the stench out of my clothing for ages!

Being a social pariah is definitely preferable to suffering those kind of brain meltdown consequences again!

    Did you try washing them?
No this is silly, the whole premise is silly and very badly written. I'm the senior officer here and I've not had a funny line yet so I'm stopping it.

Just out of interest and curiousity.

For those of you who have unsuccessfully tried giving up, have you tried to do it on your own (ie gone cold turkey slap), or have you sought help from organisations such as Quit http://www.quit.org.au/ , which can offer tips to help you plan your approach and support you while you are going through withdrawal?

    Hi Howard

As you know it is incredibly difficult to give up. I smoked for years anywhere up to 60 per day but gave up 6th July two years ago. I found cold tukey to be too difficult and found patches to be a godsend. I used the 24hr patches otherwise I tossed and turned all night. I gave up because it was expensive and a (percieved) turn off but I am not now wealthy and haven't exactly been shagging myself silly either. I am however much much more fitter and play better chess because I am not outside when I should be analysing during a game.

For me, three months was the magic mark when there were no cravings but that may have been drawn out by the patches.

Best of luck in your attempt and let us all know how you go !!
    Cheers
    George.

I smoked 40 a day up until about 2 months ago and stopped. I'd been smoking for about 25 years with a 5 year break when I gave up before.

If you have a go at giving up, then good luck. I gave up cold turkey, but my big secret was that I really wanted to give up. The psychological factors that would normally be a problem weren't for me this time. I was lucky....
I've never been so broke that I couldn't leave town

Went cold turkey every attempt and was successful the fourth time when I really meant it. I also gave up my two biggest triggers (beer and coffee) for the first few weeks.

You're a dying breed Howie, but your kind keep me in business. There's a new treatment coming on the market shortly Howard, may be of help to you - only problem is it'll be almost as expensive as smoking!

First order of business, please vote. I want this baby lit up like a Christmas Tree.

Secind order of business, the cost is not the main concern. Its my addictive personality and sheer will power. I did manage to give up for 3 weeks when Andrew was born and was going great guns.

Subsequently, I received THAT phone call while I was in Melbourne. First thing I did was grab a smoke. Yet to find the resolve to do it again. Perhaps July 19th 08:40 am will get me there.
