Grandmaster Theatre - The Whiskey Draw!

    Dear Friends,

Grandmaster Theatre continues - in techni colour - for your enjoyment. Gather around and see how the Grandmaster himself spars with a fearless opponent!

    The adventure begins!

    Event: Gold Coast Open
    Site:Cararra, Gold Coast
    Date: June 2006
    Round: X
    White: [Alex]
    Black: McGarity, Molly
    Result: 0.5 - 0.05
    NIC: Sicilian
    ECO: Alapin Variation

And a draw was given to my opponent because I had less than 7 minutes left and she had about double that. An equitable result many would say, but I call this 'the day she almost caught Grandmaster Sparrow!'.

    Arrrrrr !!!!

Get this thread out of general chess chat is the first bit.

Secondly, a draw! with Molly McGarity is not something to put in any G Theatre.

I will not wager on more than one person, especially in a chess tournament. There are too many variables.

I am still willing to make a wager with you for the Nell Van Der Graff Classic or some other similar long time control tournament.

If only she had pushed that rook one little square further, you would have been giving her rather more than half a point! (41...Re1+! wins queen for rook since 42.Kh2 Qf4+ and mates).

    Who offered the draw?

I think this is a common failing among the juniors. 14 minutes is plenty of time to see 41 ...Re1+. It is important, especially when there is an increment, to use all your time.
Why give the opponent time odds?

Don't you mean the Gold Coast Classic?

Who are you trying to fool with a new fancy name for a tournament which EVERYONE refers to as the Gold Coast Classic?

In answer to your query, I no longer play TC longer than 60 mins with 10 second increments per move. Preferably 60 minutes guillotine is the best TC for me. So it seems we will need to find something else to wager upon.

Your analysis appears to be correct.

In answer to your query she was begged me for a draw throughout the whole game, so I became generous and accepted. I'm too soft sometimes!

Because the name of the tournament since 2004 has been called the Nell Van Der Graff Classic.

Anyways, it doesnt matter to my challenge if it is the NVDG or Gold Coast Classic. The date is 24/25 September 2006.

So come on, name your terms and we will haggle.
