It depends on who they played. Assuming titled opponent and foreign opponent critera are satisfied, roughly it is 2600 performance rating for a GM norm and 2450 for an IM norm. The FM title has no norms, so is not applicable.

Smerdon has a GM norm (11 or 12 games depending on tonight's result). I don't believe any other player is in line for a norm.

What about Zhao. Isnt he in line for an IM norm or title?

To quote the French castle garrison from Holy Grail...

Well I'll tell him, but I don't think he will be very interested.

Zhao is already an IM, hence he doesnt care about IM norms, only GM norms.

He already has the IM norms he requires for the title from the Commonwealth Championship & the World Junior ... what he needs now is a 2400+ rating & he's an IM. He's about 25 points off it at the moment I think.

Thanks Kerry. It doesn't seem that George would have done well enough in the Open to pick up that many points. Shouldn't be too far away though.

I notice that the championship division of the Australian Open had an average ELO rating of under 2251, the threshhold for a category 1 tournament. Has Australia ever held a category tournament?

There have been a number of category tournaments, but they have all been Round-Robins. It's not really a fair measure to use category to compare a ten player round robin with a 30 player Swiss. If you measure it on the top ten players alone, then this Australian Championship would rank as one of the strongest tournaments held in Australia (and certainly the strongest Australian Championship).

The Hakoah International in 1988 (a swiss held after Adelaide hosted the World Juniors ) had a field strong enough so that a number of players played a Category n field. Gedevani scored an IM norm (which under the current rules qualifies for the title if he chooses to apply), and Craig Laird looked set for one until a suprise loss duded him in the final rounds.
The field included Michael Adams, Xie Jun, and Danny King (plus other titled players (Akopian?)).

Are the performance ratings anywhere on the site yet? Couldn’t find them…

p.s. the website has been great. Has made the tournament really enjoyable to follow.

Unfortunately not. That's one feature not currently available in sp2html (which was used to generate the site). It's a non-trivial addition, because Swiss Perfect save files do not include performance ratings information, so sp2html would have to generate them from scratch.

So unless the organisers choose to publish the rating reports, the performance ratings will not be available.
