Will you be in Brisbane for the Australian Champs?

Are you going to be in Brisbane for the Australian Champs? Just to get an idea of numbers, I thought we'd perhaps organise a chesschat lunch/dinner like we did in Canberra at the Doeberl, if anyone's interested.

Well I think I'd know most people that will be there..

I think the more poignant question is 'Would you rather post on chesschat than play chess?'

    The answer... is yes.

    Negative,

Despite having free accomodation, an interest in chess, a desire to go surfing again at kirra, rainbow bay or d-bah and wanting to catch up with a few old friends.

    Why?

Because $200 is a complete rip off.

    cheers Fg7

I'm going to be as far north as Coolangatta. Whether I make it to Brisbane or not, I am not sure. I might bring Jared up for a day, just to see what all the fuss is about.

Maybe maybe not. Any backpackers close to the venue? (between 20 and 40 per night preferably.)

I've also got job interviews which may mean i need to start work. Desperately want to play though. I have an appointment with my unemployment case manager on the 4th which i may not be able to get out of.... Unless i have a job interview.......hmmm light bulb goes on!

I will not be there but I wish all participants the best of luck and happy new year.

Now that I am a master of capitalism, I think I have more time for tournament play next year. So I think I can travel interstate again. See youse!!

I'll be there. Everything I've seen to date has been awesome. Don't want to get ahead of reality, but all bodes for a great event.

The entry fee was $160 Dave, not $200. I'll agree with you if your stance is that this is a nominally steep fee. Measured against other costs, or against the $40-$70 you'll pay for a weekender, maybe it works out a little more reasonably?

I would prefer the entry fees to be reduced, even if it means a reduction of prizemoney; however I do think that players will get value for their entry fee from this tournament.

As for social gatherings ... it was suggested on ICC last night that some informal soccer match/es be played - perhaps a qld v the rest muck-around game or three - to which I replied that I'd (try to) play.

There is a park near by and also the roma street parklands arent that far away either. Both can be used for informal football matches.
