Bendigo doesn't have a big cat myth that I am aware of, however, many years ago before I moved to Bendigo, (Ironically when I was returning from a chess night in Ballarat). I had the privelege of seeing the famous "Musk Panther".
It had received a great deal of press in the Daylesford Advocate but the mystery was solved when it turned out to be a fully grown rotweiler that hadn't had its tail docked as a puppy, (and liked to cross the road at night in front of cars).

The strangest thing I ever saw crossing the road late at night though was the endangered tiger quoll, which in the headlights looked like a giant spotted ferret.![]()
