which to play in, minor or major

Looking at the fields so far for the major and minor, for me the fields are looking rather similiar in strength. I am unlikely to be playing regularly on the top boards in the major, so the middle part of both fields seem very similiar.

So I am unsure which to play in, if any at all. Still trying to actually work out why the minor rating cutoff is 1800 instead of 1600

I'm actually not quite sure what you mean by "similar in strength". So far (according to the official web page), the minor has one player over 1700 while the major has 18. The median rating in the minor looks about 300 points lower.
