Last week was casual games only. This week we had our first tournament (allegro 10/5) but as it was our first tournament under mask mandate it wasn't rated to give people more time to get used to it. Most games appeared to resemble chess to a some degree so future tournaments under mask mandate probably will be rated most of the time if there is not strong feeling otherwise.

We managed to break through the glass ceiling this week – the door was unlocked. Allowing us to run an unrated 10+5 tournament. Where newcomer Cormac took out the honours finishing equal first with Toby and Zac.
The tournament is unrated as it was paired with Swiss Perfect. I am missing the results of a couple of last round games where I don't believe the results were either recorded or told to me and ratings night is tonight so they've been sent through as 0F-0F (unrated). Allegro 10/5 A big upset in round 1 as Will blundered mate against Michael while exchange up. Nearly another as Yung-Shin had queen and pawn vs rook but couldn't convert.

The AGM was held last night. The following were elected as club officebearers:
President Chris Shepherd
Vice-President Kam Lee
Treasurer Michael Midson
Secretary Kevin Bonham
Webmaster Ian Little
Junior Chess Officer James Briant
TCA Delegate Scott Cohen
James has taken over from Christine Rumley who has done a great job with the junior club for several years. James works full time as a chess coach and tournament director and we look forward to his contribution.
Until further notice masks are compulsory at the club for all players 12 and over.
During the AGM players not involved in the AGM played an unrated tournament playing under the guises of famous players, thus results were recorded for the likes of "Smyslov" and "Muzychuk".

2022 Lightning Champs is on this week. Starting as soon after 7:00 as we are able. Latecomers welcome to join in but will start on zero. 9 rounds 3/2.
Reminder: masks are compulsory at the club and must be worn correctly for all players 12 and over.
Some advance program details (gaps to be filled in)
April 25: This is the normal date for the Sturges Memorial fundraiser and also a day when the club would normally be closed. Because Anzac Day falls on a Monday the club will be open for the Sturges Memorial (entry fee applies.)

Hobart Blitz Championship 2022
I played well tonight by 3/2 standards - wasn't in clear trouble in any game though my game with Zach got rather sharp and messy and I believe for a couple of moves he could have equalised material with a better position. I think I missed winning a piece against Scott while rushing with 20 seconds on my clock; apart from that that game was level and I think the game with Toby while interesting was always even-ish.
