    Toby outplayed me. Yang was unlucky to lose to endgame mates against both of us and I also lost to Milutin by inattentively capturing once too often in a combo, simply blundering a knight.

    Next week's one night tournament will be slower, something with at least 10 mins base time.

    Just wondering if possible, I hope my game with Blackburn can be started around 6pm so we can finish it soon and joining the night tournament.

    If you're both there early and want to start early you can do so (clock setting is setting 28 I think). I know Roger is sometimes not able to get to the venue even by 6:30 for work reasons. I will not be there much before 6:30.

    How I messed up the decisive game (with about a minute on my clock):

    PGN Viewer

    Earlier I saved against Milutin after blundering Q for B and P in the middlegame. I was seriously considering resigning but managed to get a passed pawn and eventually recovered Q for B by threatening to promote it. However by that time many pawns had been taken and I still had to save an OCB ending with two pawns against five (which I only did because a win was missed).

    Tan defeated Roger in their postponed Club Champs game. With all postponed games bar one now taken care of the following is the current provisional pairing for Round 7 29 July

    Unfortunately Owen has had to withdraw as he cannot make it to the club on Monday nights for the foreseeable future.

    Next week probably a one-night tournament, TBD on the night.

    I tried the 1.Nf3 Nf6 2.d4 b5 line against Toby but it turned into a London System setup anyway and I blundered rather early under pressure. Will's win over Toby was impressive. I won against Will in a Catalan-like English which neither of us had much idea about; I had a long-standing threat that never worked until after a lot of manoeuvring he finally blundered and allowed it. Will beat Yang in a tricky pure pawn ending (I think it was 7 pawns each with opposing majorities and they reached it with 8 minutes each on the clocks!)

    Next week TBD on the night. There's been a request for a Transfer tournament so that could be an option if there is sufficient interest. (I am abysmal at Transfer.)

    was there anything wrong with Nxd7?
    Zionism is racism as defined by the UN, Israel by every dirty means available steals land and water, kill Palestinian freedom fighters and civilians, and operates an apartheid system to drive more Palestinians off their land

    7. ... c4 is normally a move that releases central tension too early, but the computer approves. But 9... b4 was risky before Black was developed. White should have played 11.Ba4+.

    Both co-winners were lucky (me more so perhaps). Toby was lost against Alex and I was dead lost against Milutin until a touchmove blunder. Then there was this endgame in Bonham - Straton which I leave as an exercise for the reader ... black to move ...

    1...Rc5 2.Rd4 and here or shortly after draw agreed with about 3 minutes each.

    What should Black have played? How about 1...Rxb5 with the idea 2.cxb5 f5+ ? (We looked at this for quite a while and got it wrong.)

    An interesting position. The fork trick just seems to lead to a drawn P endgame. What about just bringing the King in via d6 and c5? It's hard for White to get to Black's only weakness, his Pb6, in time.

    4 = Nguyen,Tan Thanh ( 3.5) - Nagy,Alex ( 3.5) = 6 - 8 = ... - this game is postponed, at this stage to August 12.
    2 = Rumley,William ( 5.0) - Martini,Andrew ( 4.0) = 10 - 13 = ... - ditto
