Highly subject to change. For some reason I had a half point bye coded for Adam which I've removed for now (but perhaps it is real and I've forgotten about it.) If he's not there next week I'll put it back.

Did you miss your dark squared bishop during the game having exchanged it early?

    Last Monday Allegro (10/0)

I was a pawn up against Milutin in a rook and SCB ending and had the thing parked on the sixth rank but Milutin is very resilient in endgames and very good at finding draws! In the end I almost lost.

Curious: it goes from 14.Bf3? and possibly a second-best 16.Qg5 to move 25, where no mistake by Black has been noted but White had a chance to win material. The culprit was 24.. Nf5, and earlier, Black should have left the N on e5 where it was perfectly fine and completed development. Maybe White should play 6. Be2 right away, and instead of 12.Nf5, complete development with 12.Be3 and Rad1, which will threaten e5 if the Black N leaves d7. Maybe even 10. Be3, since the B is likely to go there and I'm not yet sure where the Q belongs. Stockfish via Tarrasch is suggesting 10.g4, which I don't think I would have done this early.

Yes there are some quite rich lines after 24...Ng4 which I was expecting instead of 24...Nf5. It looks like 24...Ng4 doesn't work, but it actually does. I intended 25.Rfe2 Rxe2 26.Rxe2 thinking that I now recover the pawn either on g7 or if Ne5 on e5, but it actually doesn't work because of the line 26...Ne5! 27.Bxe5 Bg4!

25.Rxe8+ also doesn't work because of 25...Bxe8! and now after 26.Re2 f6 and the bishop attacks the knight. None of this is that easy to see at club level at this time control.

I got very short of time (this is 60/3) trying to dig myself out of the mess I'd created by overextending in the opening. When I declined the draw on 32 I was already down to a few minutes.

Almost a four-way tie for first, I was losing and managed to bail out into a rook ending which I first got to a drawn position and then won on time c/- my opponent's time trouble.

That's it for the year (alas) but note that the Kingston club will be open Thursdays 4 pm at Kingston Library through the holidays, every day when the library is open.
