    Sarker - Cotton draw

Sam won a pawn in the opening but Shouvojit played well to get compensation with the help of some minor positional errors and was able to reach a very drawn looking OCB ending. Sam did very well to create winning chances that may or may not have been enough (perhaps even with best play it was just holdable) but at a certain point missed the best line and Shouvojit blocked the extra pawn, after which the game was totally drawn.

Next week Little - Sarker, and I will probably run some kind of allegro.

Round 6 will be played on the 24th.

Little 1 - 0 Sarker. It looked like being a long struggle and then Ian got a quickly winning attack after a positional error.

Provisional draw for round 6 Monday 24th July

    Code:
No Name Total Result Name Total

     1 Sam Cotton (6) [3.5] : Kevin Bonham (1) [5]
     2 Scott Cohen (4) [3.5] : Chris Shepherd (9) [3]
     3 Michael Midson (8) [3] : Ian Little (5) [3]
     4 Tan Thanh Nguyen (2) [3] : Shouvojit Sarker (16) [2.5]
     5 Alex Nagy (7) [2.5] : Mark Zeeman (14) [2]
     6 James Jennings (10) [1+p] : William Rumley (11) [1+p]
     7 Joshua Perrin (13) [1+p] : Adam Rutledge (15) [1+p]
     8 Les Hay (12) [0] 0:0 BYE
Note that the bottom three boards have changed from the provisional draw I had tonight at the club because when I got home I noticed it was wrong. Time to switch from SP to Vega for the rest of the tournament now.

What's happened to a lot of the players who used to post their games here? This thread was quite a good training area, with people like Dr Dowden and rr contributing their knowledge.
“The best part of adopting conservatism after years of leftism, by the way, is how much easier life becomes. If you’re a conservative, facts are generally all you need to establish a case or mount an argument. If you’re a leftist, however, you always have to find a way around the facts, which is why combative lefties always sound like lawyers knowingly representing a guilty client.”—Tim Blair

We have quite a bit of turnover in membership from time to time, but also, people get busy!
