The TCA changed its financial year in 2021 and effectively extended all memberships by 6 months. The current TCA Membership Register already includes you as an individual member in good standing. In other words, my sincere belief is that the TCA owes you $5 and you are eligible to participate in all TCA (and TCA sponsored) events till the end of this calendar year.
OK. The current situation is that HCC membership is the same irrespective of whether someone has already paid TCA membership but we will check this with the HCC Treasurer as to whether any discount is possible. There has never been one applied in the past, probably because the situation has not come up before.

Note that TCA membership does not automatically entitle players to play in Hobart club tournaments - they have to be members of the Hobart club.

Sounds good to me, if I am already a TCA member then I don't need to pay it again as that would be double dipping. I would have thought some sort of discount is a reasonable request given that I have already payed (potentially overpaid?) the TCA fee.

Note re the fees issue mentioned by Andrew above - this actually applies to everyone who paid last year and this year; I didn't have time tonight but in future weeks will discuss with other exec members whether we call a brief special meeting to decide on whether or not there should be a partial refund.

Round 2 provisional pairing Monday 23 May
Progress scores include assumed results for unplayed games (RD>200 = win, otherwise draw)
All pairings provisional and subject to change, especially likely in the 0-point scoregroup
Players must attend even if they provisionally have the bye.

Blackburn - Bonham. A good example of how while the French Exchange has a reputation for being drawish, it's actually very easy to go wrong in it.

Is there any chance Tas Open 22 will be FIDE rated? I think quite a number of participants will have FIDE IDs

A fide rated event sounds cool. How do you get a FIDE ID?

The TCA/organisers would need to make a decision on that quickly; I have no time to pursue it myself.

For Australians usually by playing in a FIDE rated event.

I've started a thread for discussing the Tasmanian Open here: http://www.chesschat.org/showthread....560#post492560

All provisional pairings from Board 9 downwards are expected to change as a result of at least one new entrant being added.

Game between me and Garry. Very tumbly and I think Garry deserved to win this one in the end I played too fast until i was completely losing. Could not find the energy to find the win near the end though I knew I was winning so traded off the bishop. Need to work on that.

    Blundered endgames

Thanks for posting Zach, it was an interesting game with a few moments we both could improve on for sure.

My main mistake in the endgame was clearly 39. c5. King d6 was the logical move, I should have taken an extra minute there. That threw me off completely, leading to the second blundered pawn. That said, it still would have been a tricky win. As you note, your endgame mistake was swapping the bishop for the knight when you were ahead. So in all fairness, a draw was the right outcome once we had both blundered the lead during the endgame!

Look forward to our next one

Round 3 games that will be postponed:

    Sheerwater - Lim
    Blackburn - Walsh
Wells - opponent TBC (currently King but may change if more entries)

There's another one but I haven't yet found where I wrote down which one it is; I believe it's Morris - Saint.

At this stage all these will be postponed to June 6.

Due to the large number of postponed games on June 6 and one of them being mine, I won't be running a tournament that night.
