I won't be able to make it on the night, but if I give him a call, can you put me down as drawing with him?

I'm not sure the club would value your membership. I don't speak for the executive but wouldn't be alone here. I don't think it would be in the best of interests of the chess club to have you as a member. Some of your views are extreme and while you may have the right to voice them, you need to understand that this may cause issues with other people in the chess community...

Membership is actually $10 for 2005. But membership has closed for 2005.

Therefore anyone who plays in the simul and is not a member must pay the $15.

The reason for this is there are no more tournaments in the calender that a new member can play in 2005.... (and the 2006 membership is sort from players entering the St George Summer Open in December 2005).

As for Lee's comments they are purely his own. Yes he is a member of St George but is not currently on the committee.

    Refer to http://www.stgeorge.org.au/news/static/article_88.asp

Though he has held positions in the past and may do so again in the future...

Do you mean you are offering Shaun to play with white? Guess what, it is easy to make a draw then.

Only if you (or somebody else) pay the entry fee for me and promise some kind of prize if I win. Zhao is a very strong player but so far I have 1 point from 2 games in standard format, which probably means I have been a little bit lucky with him. We shared the second prize in the Doerbel blitz 1999, shared the first prize in the Doerbel blitz 2000, and shared the first prize in 2001 Australian rapid championship with a couple other egiptian IMs. This all is history though. Now he beats me consistently in blitz. I guess he is almost GM strength.

The point of the previous message was different though. I do not want to make it trivial by explaining it. Instead I will tell you a story that happened a few years ago in Russia. A friend of mine, IM Alex Matros and a few other chess players went to some kind of camp somewhere in Russia. Accidentally at the same place some local IM was giving a simultaneous. The point was he did not know who Alex was. When the simul started the local IM and Alex were moving parallel around the playing ground. The local IM from one side, while Alex followed him from the other. Eventually the local IM scored something like 4 out of 30, was very puzzled and said something like - "What an unlucky day! I have never had experience like that before".

That's funny, but all the players who played in the simul paid for Alex's boards. I doubt whether St.George players are that gullible
Good luck Zong-Yuan, beat the pants off all comers!

    Still waiting for the report.
No this is silly, the whole premise is silly and very badly written. I'm the senior officer here and I've not had a funny line yet so I'm stopping it.

St George Chess Club Champion beats St George Chess Club!

The inaugrual St George Chess Club Champion simul was staged at the St
George Leagues Club on Wednesday 28 September 2005.

2005 St George Chess Club Champion IM Zong-Yuan Zhao came up against 12
participants (including 4 juniors) in the first simultaneous exhibition at
the club for a long time. Feeling quite generous, he allowed players to choose their colour and allowed up to 3 passes.

There were some interesting games (Buza and Wall spring to mind) but no-one
could stop Zong-Yuan obtaining a perfect score 12/12! Jim Mavroidis
provided the greatest challenge whilst Cedric Koh (aged 6) got to go
one-on-one with Zong-Yuan (potentially a current master playing a future
    master!).

Following the completion of the simul, a friendly Zong-Yuan chatted to the
participants including answering the question everybody asks "What does it
take to become an International Master?". A great night was had by all.

The St George Leagues Club Chess Club committee wishes to thank both
Zong-Yuan and the participants for making the night a success.
