    Football - Soccer

Maradona has finally admitted on his TV show that it was not "the hand of God" that delivered that goal in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final against UK.

His defense: "Whoever robs a thief gets a 100-year padon" - a reference to the then recent Falklands War.

So whenever you want to upset a Pom, just mumble "hand of God" or "Maradona Maradona".

Now see thats the problem with Maradona, all the skills of a genius but no grace to match. They more than likely would have won against england..but he couldnt resist cheating. True geniuses like Eusebio,Garincha,Cruyf,Platini,Pele didnt have to resort to these tactics, they were gentleman, as opposed to a man who was sometimes gentle.

It is the modern game. Shearer is another cheat.

Shearer does/did the usual shirt-pulling, and jostling in the penalty area. And became more blatant as he got older and slower. I thought a (former) English captain should have set a better example. Owen is still young and fast enough to try and stay away from such shinanigans, but give him time.

While i dont approve of shirt pulling, its been going on for a million years,i was thinking more along the lines of the italian school of diving=you bump me ,i fall down writhing in agony/get me a stretcher acting.

So how do u think Everton will go this season? Were they lucky last season or is Cahil the real deal?

Now you are getting beyond my ken. I watched some of the English Premier league a few years ago but sadly I haven't been following the game anywhere recently. As such I have no opinion on Everton's chances.

I'm (or was) a big fan of the Italian game though and used to be a regular follower of the Serie A, moreso than ever I was of the English Premier. Though this too was back in the days when Shearer was still playing for Rovers and Marco van Basten was not injured.

Diving is seen as a failing of the Italian school but really it is not that widespread. Mind you, that reputation probably cost Italy a spot in the last World Cup finals.

What a shocker by Everton, ,oh well, guess they can focus on the Premier now..

Fireeater, bet you cant wait till christmas when you get another shot at Benni ,I mean Teddys 39,Aliadieres injury prone, which leaves you with only 2 reliable options up front..

By the way,do you think they should keep Sven,[Nireland 1-England 0 ],and if not who should be his replacement.. .

PS Shouldnt you be wishing harm on Spurs?
