On July 15 the daily post tally was 80 for the third time in six days. There has been one previous case of the same daily postcount happening three times in four days, one of three in six, one of three in seven and one of three in eight. As a result 80 has taken over from 50 as the commonest daily postcount for this year. 96 remains the all-time leader and is now also the all-time median.

A near miss for four times in seven days with 79 posts made on July 16.

This thread is now indexed in the opening post, mainly so I don't have to repeatedly look some things up. Others may find the index of marginal use if really desperate to kill some time.

Any chance to have some juxtapositional comparisons ie chess vs non chess related postings?

Currently the non-chess section is 31.6% of the forum (up from 29.4% in May 2010). If you add in everything that is not essentially chess related, including administrative postings (help and feedback, coffee lounge, 1337 lounge, news/announcements and non-chess posts moved offline) then roughly 38% of the (in some sense) publicly visible forum is non-chess content. (I gave this figure as 40% in April 2011 but I may have been including the mods forum then.)

These figures have not moved very much over time.

I didn't index past posts about this as they were all found on the Toolbox-Detox thread rather than this one! I will now index this one.

More specific suggestions are welcome. Chess v non-chess for various posters was covered here and in subsequent posts but that's a fair while ago now.

    Thanks Kev

    One more for me please!
In regards to non chess can we have an itemised statistical account ie

    God
    Aus politics
    US Politics
    Israel / Palestine
    Gun control
    Sports

    related postings?

    Thanks in advance!

These are extremely rough estimates because in so many cases the big threads wander on and off certain topics, because there are too many "tiddler" threads to go through them all, and also it's debatable whether all posts about religion are really about "God" as such, but I'll have a bash:

God - 9000 (posts debating the existence or nature thereof, including indirectly)
    Aus politics - 10700
    US politics - 4000
    Israel/Palestine - 2300
    Gun control - 1000
    Sport - 8500

(Total NC is 102,113 but I've included a removed thread of 1055 posts in the I/P estimate.)

Getting exact figures on these would (a) not be practical (b) give subjective results anyway.

Thanks Kev, I can see the overlapping possibilities amongst various topics and the difficulties to separate, re-classify and split.

I am happy, however, that sport, albeit in so many different codes, is doing quite well!

I am also happy that we have so many allrounders here who contribute in many different topics.

Not that I mind the "specialists", as long as their contributions are interesting for the rest of the members!

Here's some data according to a common search engine. The unbracketed number is the number of results restricted to site:chesschat.org (followed by unrestricted results for comparison; followed by the unrestricted-to-chesschat ratio):

    "God" - about 11,000 results on chesschat.org (1,870,000,000 web-wide; ratio is 170,000)
    "Politics" - about 7,700 results (1,080,000,000; 140,260)
    "Israel" - about 3,710 results (953,000,000; 256,873)
    "Palestine" - about 550 results (172,000,000; 312,727)
    "Gun" - about 2,750 results (763,000,000; 277,455)
    "Gun control" - about 305 results (10,600,000; 34,754)
    "Sport" - about 2,280 results (3,820,000,000; 1,675,439)
    "Cricket" - about 1,590 results (359,000,000; 225,786)
    "Football" - about 4,140 results (1,670,000,000; 403,382)
    "Soccer" - about 1,170 results (791,000,000; 676,068)
    "Hockey" - about 309 results (463,000,000; 1,498,382)
    "Netball" - about 120 results (17,700,000; 147,500)
    "Golf" - about 369 results (1,680,000,000; 4,552,846)
    "Bonham" - about 28,500 results (25,000,000; 877)
    "Kevin" - about 30,000 results (831,000,000; 27,700)
    "Beaumont" - about 927 results (96,000,000; 103,560)
    "Bourgeois" - about 81 results (33,200,000; 409,877)
    "fg7" - about 2,570 results (406,000; 158)
    "firegoat" - about 1,680 results (73,400; 44)

    JaK blunder - about 766 results (3,640,000; 4,752)
    Bonham blunder - about 1,770 results (2,890,000; 1,633)
    fg7 blunder - about 102 results (8,080; 79)
    JaK brilliancy - about 98 results (382,000; 3,898)
    Bonham brilliancy - about 163 results (36,200; 222)
    fg7 brilliancy - about 6 results (393; 66)
    "chess" - about 70,100 results (196,000,000; 2,796)

    * Of the sport names investigated, "netball" is the one for which chesschat has the most hits relative to the rest of the web.

    * JaK has the lowest blunder to brilliancy ratio of the three Australian chess personalities investigated, followed by Bonham and firegoat.

    * On the entire web, "golf" has 1,680 million hits, edging "football" with only 1,670 million hits.

    * Only one in 4.55 million web-wide hits for "golf" are from chesschat, which is the highest ratio of any of the terms investigated.

No, he's saying that the word "brilliancy" occurs more often in relation to "blunder" in your case than the others.

The odd thing is that you have never used "brilliancy" yourself in a post on this site.
