    ----------------

I've created this this thread as a home for rubbish about forum statistics and other oddities. Starter may wish to post his postcount speculations here in future.

The current top ten posters by postcount are:

    1. Bill Gletsos 6623 (1)
    2. ggrayggray 4757 (7)
    3. starter 4315 (8)
    4. Rincewind 3562 (6)
    5. Kevin Bonham 3351 (4)
    6. arosar 3004 (5)
    7. skip to my lou 2879 (-)
    8. antichrist 2535 (17)
    9. Matthew Sweeney 2268 (2)
    10. Belthasar 2222 (46)

(Figures in brackets indicate position on old ACF BB when this BB started. The other members of the old ACF BB top ten were 3. chesslover (12th here and inactive) 9. Aaron Bellette (64th with a bullet) and 10. jenni (11th).)

All the top ten posters here are still active although #9 has had a few spells in the tank and #10's interest in the forum comes and goes.

Indeed the forum's record at retaining regulars is impressive. There are currently 57 accounts with over 100 posts, although two of these are the same person (disabled account then returned with a new one). Only five of the 56 actual posters with over 100 posts have not visited in the last month:

    12. chesslover (last visit 16-05-04)
    14. Cat (19-03-05)
    25. Recherche (11-06-05)
    30. Gandalf (23-04-05)
    36. george (17-01-05)

However, and this is the oddity, some members have "last visit" dates in the memberlist that are clearly bogus - have these people found some way to be permanently logged in?

    STML 01-01-04
    kegless 01-01-04
    eclectic 28-01-04

You may remember one of those final four said last night "that every breath we take..." and is firing on all 8 cyclinders tonight as well

Current top ten threads by reply, excluding threads that have been totally deleted:

    809 Does God Exist?
    699 Olympiad Selections (2004)
    671 Mt Buller Championships (locked)
651 How competitive do you want it to be?
    632 cricket
    617 Underrated Juniors
    602 Who Is Chesslover?
599 Football codes - what is the future?
586 Check, mates, he's a multiple winner (taken offline)
582 Chess Olympiad 2004, Calvia de Mallorca

... which contrasts quite a bit with current top ten threads by views, excluding threads that have been totally deleted and threads created by thread-splitting:

    19286 2005 Doeberl Cup
15330 Mt Buller Junior Australian Championships
    14024 Mt Buller Championships
    13704 Olympiad Selections (2004)
    13287 Live Games (Mt Buller)
11845 Chess Olympiad 2004, Calvia de Mallorca
    10000 Mt Buller ... a repeatable process?
    9693 Underrated Juniors
    9419 Does God Exist?
    9240 2004/05 Lidums Australian Open

The non-chess section gets some very long threads, but threads about current and upcoming tournaments get more views from readers who don't post or who post rarely. No real surprises there I guess. Not sure how much influence bots have on the view counts, if any.

I think this is because we are non-visible to normal members.

One more and then I'll find some other way to procrastinate. Top ten post tallies by a poster on a single thread

271 starter (How competitive do you want it to be?)
    180 starter (Football codes)
    170 antichrist (Does God exist?)
    164 Bill Gletsos (underrated juniors)
    157 Rincewind (cricket)
153 Bill Gletsos (NSWCA AGM 28/11/04)
    143 ggrayggray (Mt Buller Championships)
142 Bill Gletsos (planned rating changes)
128 Bill Gletsos (check, mates, he's a multiple winner ...)
    126 chesslover (US Presidential elections)

It seems that this list includes partly posters with unusually strong interests in particular topics, and partly posters who need to make lots of posts in one thread as part of their business (Bill on ratings and NSWCA, Garvin on Mt Buller.)

This list does not include the following from the correspondence games section which does not count towards postcount:

174 JGB (chesschat correspondence match #2)
    150 ggrayggray (same)

or two totals of 143 and 131 by posters on an Australian Open organisers forum which was only viewable by a very small proportion of members.

There is already a thread for this; initiated by gg''.
It is on page 4 of the non-chess forum index.

MODS are not what they used to be.

Starter, in the classified section in Post 5 you are number two. And what are the topics - Oz's two religions - God and football.

So there is. Page 5 now. here. I'd forgotten about that one.

Not a lot of actual discussion of postcounts there though. Far more of it is devoted to discussion about discussing postcounts.

Actually, most of my post-count listing has been in my signature line as this location suits the ephemeral nature of the counts; and it makes K. super happy because I don't then occupy server-capacity long-term .

I leave it to gg'' to take care of the thread he started on the post-count topic, and BD the two he started on thread oddities.

Tell me where they are and I might be able to do some merging. I seem to be unusually senile in the past 24 hours.

    Ah
    That list.

I see what you mean my friend.

But, you have have overlooked the subtle dig by the Initiator.
He was highlighting threads where a poster ...well,...uh...sort of...like....talks to himself.
Now your 'reversed dog' thread has all sorts of helpers on it. I mean, you have an enormous advantage on a topic like that.
Face it a/c, just about anyone can get a high post-count on that thread; it is about as hard as licking stamps.

Hmmm. You said that, not me.

I could do a "thread domination" metric to highlight cases of that type. Your effort on "how competitive ..." would be one of them but AC has a few that are up there too, eg 29/71 on "Bill's Asleep".

What I am disappointed about is that in Best of Antichrist I have only have about 6 out of 19 - and the others are not even fans.

I'm disappointed as well. I could have sworn that thread was going to be what in mathematics is called the null set.
