Chessbase article reporting that the WFM title doesnt exist?

    Hello everyone,

This article just appeared on chessbase and it remarks that the WFM title has been scrapped. Does anyone know anything further about this?

We counted a total participation of 31 GMs (+ 2 WGMs), 21 IMs (and 2 WIMs) and 24 FMs (no WFMs, since that title does not exist).
Could this just be an american thing, or has the WFM title been put to the sword?

From the FIDE handbook on fide.com:
0.31 Titles for over-the-board standard chess (as defined in 1.14), the judging unit being the FIDE Titles and Ratings Committee:
Grandmaster (GM), International Master (IM), FIDE Master (FM), Candidate Master (CM), Woman Grandmaster (WGM), Woman International Master (WIM), Woman FIDE Master (WFM), Woman Candidate Master (WCM), Honorary Grandmaster (HGM), Honorary Master (HM).
    Seems self-explanatory...

not necessarily, as sometimes fide is slow to update the website with current changes sometimes. I didnt think it had been scrapped, but thought I would just ask since that chessbase article was saying that it had been.

Looks like a mistake or a joke as I cannot find anything else suggesting WFM has been abolished, and it would be contentious to some degree if it happened.

WFM in Australia translates loosely as "strongish player who just happens to be female", and is a bit of a joke because the holders are frequently nowhere near "master strength" (then again, nor are some Aussie FMs). However, if it's encouraging women's chess then by all means keep it.

Similar to the FM title only lower: have a rating of 2200+ and pay the fee.

That is all there is for the CM title: 2200+ Elo and fee. Nothing else (at least no FIDE requirements, some national federations have apparently decided to have extra conditions before they forward the application)
FM is similar only 2300+ Elo
    WFM is 2100+
    WCM is 2000+

No norms or anything are required.

Aside from the rating difference, there is one major difference between the CM and FM titles, making the CM even more useless: For IM/GM-norms players need to have played at least 50% titled players, however, in this context CM and WCM are not counted as titles!
