1. ## Untouchable King

 FEN Viewer

Anyone have a solution to this?

You're not allowed to move White King, and white must checkmate black in 11 moves maximum.

Also it is white to play.

2. This is already over in the General Chess Chat Forum.

As far as I can tell there are 2 solutions.

3. So what are the two solutions and why are there two solutions? Someone told me it was only one solution.

4. I just had a look at it and I think there's only one. See my post over in that thread.

5. Yeah cool! 8)

I think you are right Kevin.

Thanks for the help.

6. ## solved

the answer is... Qg4 - Kh2.. Qd1 - Kg3.. Qe2 - Kh3.. Qf2 - Kg4.. Qe3 - Kh4.. Qf5 - Kh3.. Qg1 - Kh4.. Qg2 - Kh5Qf5++ that is only 8moves a side, which is under 11 the maximum.

7. Fixed.....

I think Qd1 is not valid solution, Someone explained it in the other thread

I assume you mean ...Qf2 instead of ...Qf5.

If so, Black plays ...Kg4 instead of ...Kh3.

10. Doesnt matter Kevin.

After Qd1 then Kg2 is far better than Kg3.

There are a number of flaws in this.

Firstly you show the sequence Qf2 - Kg4.. Qe3 - Kh4.. Qf5 - Kh3

This is illegal.
The q on e3 cannot move to f5. Lets assume you mean g5.

Secondly your last move cannot be Qf5 as that is illegal from g2. Lets assume you mean Qg5.
In which case your solution is 9 moves.

However this is all superfluous.

Instead of Kg3 in reply to Qd1 the move Kg2 is superior.

Because then you cannot mate in 8, 9 or even 11.

13. Interesting puzzle, although the meta-puzzle of the thread is who made post #6?
