Last night the organisers counted up sponsorship money received and pledged and found that they have already reached budget target. This is a goodness for the guarantee of the prize fund detailed in the link.
Check early-bird discount dates if you are cash-challenged

Last year was a great tournament. I'm hoping to actually play in it this year.

will it be a gp tournament, i recall making this same offer last year. Interesting that if the vic open wanted to be a gp tournament is that it would be on the same weekend as the nsw open

There's only so many long weekends in a year, I guess.

I believe historically the Vic Open always clashed with the NSW Queens Birthday weekender (now the NSW Open).

interesting in terms of the fact that if the vic open was to become a gp event, it would be cat 3 and therefore would clash with the NSW open. It could create another issue like events clashing with Doeberl ie Brisbane Open etc.

You are right pax that there are only so many 3 day weekends in a year and worse still is that some of them are one weekend after another.

This makes it difficult for tournaments to avoid clashes, even more so when tournament organisers arent willing to negotiate/ move for another tournament.

I guess the tournament organisers dont want the Victorian Open to be a gp event. I remember a conversation I had with Mr Wastell who clearly stated to me that CV still supports the gp and would be working towards getting more events from Vic onto the calendar.

Maybe I need to speak to Gary by email or on the phone to find out what is going on with Victoria and the gp. Or maybe he doesnt have much say on the matter in reality and it is the clubs of Victoria who dont want the gp to be a success in Victoria

You've confused me gray. Does it not already clash with the NSW Open? And isn't it already equivalent to a GP3 event anyway?

I don't really believe that there's any controversy over this clash. After all, there is ample distance between the 2 centres with quite a large number of players in both.

Personally, I don't believe it's anyone's business to be telling some other organiser not to do this or that. This is why I absolutely support the concept of an SEC or even Brissy Open. However, in the interest of overall harmony, I feel that the smaller and younger tourns (especially SEC due to its close proximity to Canberra) should show deference to Doeberl so as not to pose a long term threat to it. By that I mean it could offer a modest prize fund - which it does now.

Maybe that German IM can finally win a title without having to share it with someone else who he begged fo a draw in the last round.

I seriously doubt that will have any effect.
Provided he isnt being defamatory or libelous then just making nasty statements has never been a reason to suspend anyones account.
If it had been a number of posters would have long ago been banned from posting.

Happier times tonight for the Treasurer of the 2005 VIC OPEN. He collected enough early bird entries to double the size of the field. Players considering entering should note that early bird is available until 29 May. How could you knock back a 25% discount.

going from two early entries to four early entries is not a reason to celebrate
