Great job NZ. Four overs to go with India needing 42 it was looking dicey.

Not unusually, Lord Fairfax's people appear to have watched the semi-final in a parallel universe. The front page of the SMH e-rag warns "Black Caps to be a big threat in the final after stunning victory over England".

Footnote: An hour or so after the offence this was changed to "Black Caps stun in one of the most remarkable wins in World Cup finals history".

NZ always had a decent batting side, but their bowling in this match was outstanding.

England chasing 224 for a place in the final after Australia lost early wickets and failed to bat out their 50 overs.

Comprehensively beaten by England, well done to them.

In a few days a team who has never won the World Cup will be holding the trophy.

    Hope for a good game.

    cheers

    I don't recall making a previous prediction

I did express scepticism about NZ's chances, so I'll pick England - given my recent predictive accuracy that should guarantee a Kiwi victory!

Incredible final, with NZ and England tied at the end, and then tied again at the end of the Super Over! England possibly deserved to win - which they did, on boundaries hit. But NZ definitely did not deserve to lose, and they had terrible luck at several points, including a return to the keeper hitting Stokes' bat and going for a boundary.

Debate about whether the freak overthrow should have been called a five not a six:

    https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_...six-overthrows

If it should have been a five then I think the same thing has been got wrong a number of times before.

    An incredible game of cricket.

I've never seen anything like it.

    Congratulations to all involved.

Simon Taufel says it was a five and Rashid should have been on strike, which would have left England with four to win off two balls and Rashid facing.

    https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_...s-simon-taufel

NZ would have obviously preferred that, but Rashid is a fast scorer himself (typically coming in late his SR is actually higher than Stokes') so England still would have had chances.
