Four more entries by Kiwis IM Paul Garbett, IM Anthony Ker, FM Stephen Lukey and Chris Joel. It is great to see that so many strong Kiwi players have entered! On the other hand, it appears IM Girinath from India may have withdrawn, which is unfortunate. Entries closed on Friday Sept 30 but the organisers have advised that they will consider late entries if you email them concerning your intentions ASAP, however I suspect additional entries from overseas are highly unlikely due to the currently exorbitant cost of trans-Tasman air travel!

Update: FIDE ratings adjusted to Oct 2022 period.

Does my old mate Mike Steadman play still? He would be good value for a few points surely?

Mike is playing in the South Island Rapid this coming weekend (on Oct 9). In some cases getting an extra week off work is problematic, so this might explain why some individuals are unable to play in an event which they may not have anticipated at an earlier stage in the year.

Sorry to hear Mana Garland (1946-2022). In his younger days, he was a very strong and fit athlete as well as a friendly chessplayer.

It definitely deserves a thread, but it took me a while to realise that it would be under 'Oceania Chess'.

IM Gary Lane is the only Aussie in the Over 50s section, but he's leading comfortably, and should win it.
