Hi, this is not actually the Australian championship however we are awarding the title of Australian Champion thanks to a decision by the ACF. Originally Posted by DelAmitri

This tournament is run on the Gold Coast each year (hence Gold Coast Open), and is always on at the same time of year.
It was also advertised in the ACF newsletter with public notices emailed out.

The unfortunate thing is that after 38...Rxh3, White can still draw with 39.Rg7 anyway, even if he doesn't find the winning idea of a4. A move which is not obvious - here's a game where two super GMs missed a similar idea. Originally Posted by Kevin Bonham
