2022 Gold Coast Open 23-27 June incorporating Australian Champion title

One of Australia's largest, most prestigious events is on once again in 2022.

After 2 unfortunate years of the event not being able to proceed, we are pleased to be back with this wonderful event.

    With 3 divisions -

    Premier (GM norm eligible)
    Major (under 1800 acf)
    Minor (under 1200 acf)

It is sure to be a great event once again.

For more information and to register please see: https://app.iclasspro.com/portal/gardinerchess/camps/5

    Titled players please contact scurtis@gardinerchess.com.au

This looks like a great event. I followed the link and couldn't find where to register or find more details of the event (such as round times). Perhaps I have missed them or perhaps they are to be added later. Either way, I am keen to attend!

Will aim to get the round times document along with other relevent documents posted at https://gardinerchess.com.au/gold-coast-open/ in the next day or two. The above link from Shaun should enable you to pick which event you want to play in and register - just create an account in your name, and then add yourself as a student. It seems a bit silly, but the backend of the system is primarily used for registering kids in classes and other events.

We look forward to seeing lots of people come and take part in this event. We are expecting a strong field (in every division!) for what we believe is one of the top events on the Australian chess calendar.

Thanks to the support of the Australian Chess Federation, I am pleased to announce that the highest scoring eligible player of the Gold Coast Open Premier Division will be awarded the title of 2022 Australian Champion.

In the event of a tie for the title, the relevant ACF By-Laws will apply.

Thanks to the ACF we are pleased to announce that 1st and 2nd place in this event have been increased also.

    1st place: from $1,500 to $2,000
    2nd place: from $1,000 to $1,500

We thank the Australian Chess Federation for their acknowledgment and support of this event. I look forward to seeing many of Australia's top players taking part.

I encourage any titled players who wish to participate to contact me directly - scurtis@gardinerchess.com.au

Based on previous years we are expecting multiple GM's and many other titled players. I have already been in contact with some GM's and discussions continue.

I will post a preliminary list of players early next week.

Here is an old blog regarding the Prestigious Gold Coast Open for refererence: https://gardinerchess.com.au/2018-gold-coast-open/

There has been a growing interest in this event since the announcement of the Australian Champion title being awarded.

I am looking forward to what will be a great event across all 3 divisions!

Also just to clarify as we have had some confusion from a chesschat user who couldn't find the rounds for the event.

    Premier - 9 rounds Thursday - Monday
    Major - 7 rounds Friday - Sunday
    Minor - 6 rounds Saturday - Sunday

Hope this clears up any confusion for those that could not find the schedule online at https://gardinerchess.com.au/gold-coast-open/

I am still compiling lists of players while conversations with titled players continues.

We currently have the following numbers entered

Premier - 10 players (4 titled players so far)
    Major - 15 players
    Minor - 7 players

These numbers will of course grow quite dramatically in the coming weeks.

So,... no minimum rating requirement in the Major?

    Hi there,

I'm coming from Melbourne - is there any chance I can book a room at the hotel from the tournament?

    Thanks.
