Firstly I got my prediction for Grey totally wrong.
Secondly it is great to see the end of the Morrison lead Coalition government.
I think the most important thing to remember about this government is it failure, massive failure to the people of Australia in organising Covid vaccines and delaying there roll out which cost people their lives. Some people on coverages tonight seem to think Morrison did a good job on COVID, it is simple not true.
Thirdly, well done to Labor on being by far the largest party in parliament and probably getting a small majority. Our new Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has promised a more kind and caring government, a government which will help those who need help. I hope this is the government we get because it would be a massive improvement on what just got thrown out.
Fourthly I did not expect the Greens to win any extra seats and it looks like they are going to win a couple and maybe more. Well done to the Greens. If the Greens have any impact on how Labor governs I hope it is to change Labor's policy on assylum seekers and lead the nation opinion away from its vilification of them.
My post from the thread on the previous election has been vindicated!
More generally, I think this election and the previous one followed the pattern in 1993 and 1996, with the parties reversed. An unpopular government just clung to power against an opposition with an ambitious agenda and an unpopular leader, and was then annihilated by the same opposition when it adopted a more popular leader and a less ambitious agenda.
I'm curious to know why Labor didn't do well in Tasmania.
Maybe the resident psephologist has some wisdom?

From my cursory glance of the stats last night, that was the biggest anomaly for me as well. The coalition actually seems to have performed better which is a touch bizarre and it seemed that the independent vote was the big winner.
More Jackie Lambie types down there these days ?
Great news as a result of the election result is the Murugappan family will return to their home of Biloela as soon as possible.

I wonder what jobs our newly elected PM had before....is he bringing richness of work experience into this role?

Michael, it seems a bit late now, after the election, to be raising doubts about our new Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
In my view, Scott Morrison and his government were terrible and had to go. I am not the biggest fan of our new PM, but lets give him a chance and see how he goes.
