If the other, who I know nothing about, is no good then ACF should abstain

Here is some information about Fumey. Abstaining would presumably just help Dvorkovich.

GM Andrii Baryshpolets, a US-resident Ukrainian citizen, has just announced he is running for President.

The critical information is: he was urged to run to creat the ''2nd candidate as weak as possible''

Do you mean Andrey Baryshpolets, a Ukrainian GM living in the US? Or Andrii Baryshpolets, a non-chess playing (?) Ukrainian living in the US? Or are they the same person

I can't find any evidence that either is running for FIDE President - although there is definite evidence of opposition to Dvorkovich.

For a so-called 'weak' candidate, Fumey has an excellent cv in chess administration! Baryshpolets, on the other hand, seems to have no relevant experience (assuming he's running). Although, based on this, he is both a GM (with his name spelt "Andrey" by FIDE), and a lecturer in economics in Texas.

Yes, I agree, looking more at Fumey and his background he might do a good job as FIDE President. He certainly does have a decent background in chess adminstration.

Apparently Baryshpolets started a petition to remove Dvorkovich.

He has a twitter, https://twitter.com/AndriyBar where has retweet tweets from chess players regarding the war.

I have heard still more tickets may emerge.

The tipping point for Kirsan was when FIDE couldn't open a bank account under his leadership. Similarly having a Russian as President is likely to make FIDE unmarketable, even if the reasons for that are not his fault.

Of course there were plenty of other problems with Kirsan, a measure of which is that claiming to have toured the universe on flying saucers with aliens is arguably several steps below the top of the list. But from a chess point of view his greatest abomination was the bastardisation of the World Championhip.

The current administration can claim to have kicked some goals but in terms of dekirsaning the championship process they have not only failed but gone backward, with five of the original eight starters in Madrid (before Sergey got the boot) qualifying through short, mainly two-game, encounters with numerous rapid and blitz deciders. Not satisfied with their handiwork the administration has now corrupted the process further by introducing qualifying for the Candidates via the Grand Chess Tour

    https://fide.com/news/1717

a series which includes a number of speed events.

In my view ACF should back the candidates who undertake to fix this nonsense. And if they do a bit of interstellar tourism in their spare time then so be it.
