White is much better after 12..Kf7, but 13.Nd2 (+4.17) or 13. RxB (+3.25) is a better option than 13.Re4. Even after that, White is still winning after either 14.c5 or 14.RxB - but 14.Nh4 is wrong. I think my decision to play the wing gambit against Toby was psychologically sound - and I got what I wanted - but after tough games with Kevin and Wynand earlier in the day, I just wasn't able to knock him out early. After that, let's just say that 'rope-a-dope' worked better for Ali against Foreman than it did for McMahon against Straton.

The TCA website has a few photos from the event and a very brief overview: Miles repeats the dose

Note also that there is a definition of "close contact" which includes four hours contact "in a residential setting" (elsewhere it refers to a "household or household-like contacts"). I haven't been taking this as referring to a venue setting because if it was meant to refer to venue settings, I would have assumed that it would have said so and I do not believe the centre is a "residential setting".

The requirements for close contacts are given here: https://www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au/k...Close-contacts

At this stage I am acting as if I am a close contact anyway whether I am required to or not. If anyone else wants advice on whether they are a close contact I suggest contact Public Health Tasmania on 1800 671 738. (They may or may not pass you on to Business Tasmania.)

To be honest I did see the f3 line, I just was overwhelmed by the thought of being a piece down and I couldn't motivate myself to look further into the line.

Anyway, this is my R3 game with Tony Davis. Im pretty sure I had a better/easier to play position until Rxc3.

As far as I understand James Briant is the head coach and owner of Black Square Chess. Would there be any issues surrounding potential conflict of interest or oversight with regard to junior development in this area?

Just tested negative for COVID via PCR after a couple of days of mildish flu-like symptoms following the tournament. I may not have had anything contagious at all - a few times a year on average I get mildish but sometimes weird flu-like symptoms that go for more or less exactly 48 hours then stop, and nobody else ever seems to catch it from me.

Monday’s games. In the first I was lucky that Luwanna didn’t put her knight on b4 rather than the bishop as in the game.

I was enjoying the (second) game against David, at least until the end when I incorrectly gave up the rook in a wining position and then in a flunk I resigned when a draw was possible/likely.

That's a relief, and congrats on an 8th state title. Hope everyone else in the champs is OK too. Shame that Toby Stratton had to withdraw while leading.

Good to see some new blood like the co-champ, whose first name is pronounced something like "VAY-nunt" in Afrikaans.
