Mostly all since the commencement of the industrial society. We are writing our own extinction warrant.
Zionism is racism as defined by the UN, Israel by every dirty means available steals land and water, kill Palestinian freedom fighters and civilians, and operates an apartheid system to drive more Palestinians off their land

It would be fascinating if humans did go extinct (not that we'd be about to be fascinated by it). Assuming that humans did go extinct and did not evolve into another hyper-cosmopolitan species, all the introducted organisms we have carted to thousands of islands around the globe would speciate. Come back in 100,000 years and there would be thousands of species derived from common cats and dogs and so on. On the other hand, many species that we have put on life support and that are only now continuing because of us would snuff it.

So we need to carry out selective genocide before departing. Plus reforestation of the planet and destruction of dams. Plus safe storage of all nuclear materials and safe disposal of all aspects of the motor industry etc etc. I doubt we will survive that long.

So what are we all meant to do now? Kill ourselves?

Earth without humans so ''plants can grow'' and ''birds can sing'' but what for? -

When away Australia the only things I miss is the Australian bush and birds singing etc in the mornings.much more fulfilling than the stock market report.

You might like to check out the doco-series, Life After People by the US History channel. They consult with engineers and whatnot about the decline of man-made objects if we left them all behind, and how they get reclaimed by nature. It's 10 years old now, but graphics hold up OK. A taste:

I reckon birds would do very well. There's a heck of a lot of them, and a lot of diversity.
So what's your excuse? For running like the devil's chasing you?

See you in another life, brotha.

What is anything for in the big scheme of things?

We are as a result of chance happening from the big bang onwards. It provided us with alot but we are destroying it. If humans had never evolved the Earth would be a much better planet.

While we are very human focused, quite understandably the universe is indifferent to our presence, it will continue on whether we are here or not. Humans do not matter.

If humans disappeared tomorrow these things will not matter in 1 billion years, time will erase humans impact on the Earth and evolution will continue change who lives here

This would be unfortunate but I think there would be greater diversity on earth without humans than if there were humans.

The ''great diversity'' for the benefit of? Everything needs a reason. The planet would still be waiting for some ''higher intellects'' to populate/visit it...or for the next big bang .

Why? Seems a curiously religious-style assumption to impose on the universe. All the animals that existed for hundreds of millions of years before there were humans weren't there so that we could play chess someday.

Nothing has a reason in the way you seem to be using it. It all just tumbles along and happens.
