    Kramnik-Anand no castling match July 15-18 2021

Kramnik and Anand are playing a 4 game classical time control match, with the rule twist that there is no castling.

Anand won the first game, the second was drawn.

You can see the 2 world champions analyse their game afterwards.

If the rules were changed this way (or many others) it wouldn't result in one new player taking up or following chess, but it would lead to half of players, in very round numbers, deciding that they don't want to lose all the game's history, throw out their library and learn a whole new opening repertoire. Those players would form a new federation to play and promote Old Chess, probably under a snappier title, while FIDE continued to use the name Chess. So it's difficult to see the rules changing, though you wouldn't put anything past an organisation that runs games like Saturday's armageddon to decide Candidates spots.

That's not to say there's no point to it. It persuaded a sponsor to put up a prize, or at least I assume there is one for the match.

I think it would be more interesting for one of these guys to play Ivanchuk at draughts. Or perhaps do one of those TV shows where people dress in outlandish costumes and spray each other with mud while they slither through pipes, or traverse narrow shaking walkways over tubs of rice pudding.

As Danailov put it"2 retired players are playing with some odd rules because someone agreed to give them money to do so''

I knew about ex world champion Vladimir Borisovich Kramnik but has ex world champion Viswanathan Anand also retired from classical chess?
As for the No Castling business I can't really imagine it setting the chess world on fire!

The 4th game was drawn, leaving Anand the winner - WDDD.

I'm looking forward to the analysis video where I can watch 2 former world champions analyse their classical game in some detail. If others do not like watching 2 former world champions analysing a classical chess game they have played, my suggestion to them is not to watch it. Dortmund chess has said the final interview "will probably be published on Wednesday".
