I played Vahap Sanal many times on Chess.com (under his username SantoBlue). He's a very creative player and quite tricky in blitz - sometimes I used those qualities against him with very classical, measured play.

Temur Kuybokarov isn't playing and is replaced by ... Elmer Prudente (rating 1998) of Guam!
No wonder, Anton was not interested either.
Amazed that Bobby made it to the WC

There were two ways Australians could qualify - firstly via the Oceania Zonal and secondly via the position reserved to Australia following the expansion of the World Cup.

Only two Australians were allowed to play in this year's Zonal conducted in hybrid format. With neither Temur and Anton going to the World Cup, Nic Croad (NZL) was third but hasn't gone either so Prudente who was fourth gets the spot.

Bobby applied for the Australian-reserved position and was selected on ratings.

Bobby is definitely one of our top players, I am amazed not that he is selected (he absolutely deserves it! But that he will be able/prepared to play in Russia right now.

It took me by that I saw Julia Ryjanova in these pairings, whom I see at MCC Allegros. Well done to her, anyways, for making it through
Having said that, how so is she classifed to leave Australia? Maybe as a sports athlete?

I guess given the current quarantine requirements for the participants - it is much easier to get/get ready to play in Sochi from Miditerranean.

Julia Ryjanova's name is not on the list of participants for the 2021 WC (go here https://worldcup.fide.com/news and click on "Required documents to enter Russia") but she is still listed as playing in the Women's WC pairings.
