I'm pretty sure Bruce Holiday (then the Champion of QLD) beat GM Pal Benko in the Ballarat 1984 Australian Open (I drew against the same GM). Would love to see that game, if anyone has a game score hanging around....

    Cheers,
    Kevin Casey

Looks like Benko totally missed the exchange of the e5 pawn followed by Black's 38... d4, winning a piece because of the rook mate threat at h1. Ouch.

Yes presumably missed that or something around there.
I thought the game was quite interesting, in that Benko played along the b-file, like the opening bearing his name, but there was nothing to be done there, the heavy pieces just biting on air.
Also Holliday's exchange sac was very interesting, it never really felt like he was exchange down, the minor pieces just as good as rooks (or better) there.
So what's your excuse? For running like the devil's chasing you?

See you in another life, brotha.
