Nobody posed with the polar bear? Very popular photo opportunity with the Curtin girls at the Schools Champs

Nice to see some pics - thanks - you get quite firm ideas in your mind using only the name, nationality & chess interest as a guide.

I was told the bear was strictly off limits.

Maybe your son was just lucky.

I was told that Grollo owns it and it is real.

There's absolutely no doubt that the bear is off limits and is real. On the second point there is a notice hanging around its neck explaining that no bears were harmed in the killing of this bear and all the appropriate rites were observed such as premission from the Canadian Government to export it. On the first point George told me that anyone who touches the bear dies and any Grollo employee who does so gets the sack (and presumably dies as well). He didn't tell the juniors that for a fairly obvious reason but did announce at the opening of the Aus Juniors that the bear must not be touched. Oddly, Mr Grollo hasn't had a "Don't touch" notice put near the bear though thousands of people must pass it in the winter.

Very sensible when children are involved. "Don't touch" is an invitation to every child to do just that. Parents rule of thumb - don't want it touched, put it in the cupboard, lock cupboard and shift heavy furniture to block access.

Can also hide such objects behind other items of no interest to children - fruit bowls, toothbrushes, dust cloths, "educational" software, G rated movies and thank you cards addressed to their parents.

These pics are good. Well done to Quanta for showing the initiative to post them.

Why the Mt Buller organisers cannot be bothered to send pics (and regular up to date reports) to Karthick to post on the official Mt Buller website is beyond my comprehension.

    Anyway, well done, Quanta!

P.S. Maybe its just the way the pics came out, but it looks to me as though that (given the background scenery in the pics) that the chess games at Mt Buller were played in an attic or a garage!
