They do say something. Definetly a good club to mingle with.
How often do these players listed above play at the Club. I am pretty sure you are a regular or am I wrong?

Dragicevic and Pecori- current members
Bjelobrk- currently not a member, but former =club champion in 2003.

JGB- both Jordan and Pecori are MCC regulars, often found at the club playing blitz, coaching or looking at games.
Dragicevic regularly plays in most MCC events.

The other two seldom play at MCC anymore, but sometimes play in tournaments at MCC.

Perhaps I should have asked for a posting in Melbourne.

Very few players over 2000 seem to play in Sydney torns.

A look at the rating list shows an awful lot of good players in New South Wales dont play many rated games.

Does the New South Wales chess board attempt to attract them back to playing torns?

Perhaps I should have asked for a posting in Melbourne.

Very few players over 2000 seem to play in Sydney torns.

It depends on which tourneys you are talking about.... A category 3 GP event in Sydney attracts many players 2000+

Eg NSW Open = 11players 2000+ of which 2 are from o/s the rest from NSW

hey not only MCC ,say last box hill turnry i was the 11th seed very strong.mcc champs is always very strong,vic ch is the best hard to get a draw in that one,vic open is always strong,and begonia.all in all victoria for chess

I agree. I think this is the same phenomenon as witnessed in Europe. For good chess you need a reasonable population and poor weather.

I think you are going to get some flack from the Welshers on this one Baz. Surely some of their chess playing population are reasonable. Take Bill for example.

Im sure Box Hill will have an even more impressive list in the next few years , due to its excellent administration and ability to grow players.

As for Interclub, well it needs some sort of revitalising. Maybe ChessVictoria needs to discuss Interclub with the top 20 players in Victorian chess, ask them- how can we get you to play?

My opinion of the matter, which may or may not count for much is that Interclub should be, just that, a club competition not a team event. Maybe, get rid of stupid names like the team I once played for (the cashdy bundies).

(For a suggestion out of left field).Let's get Interschool connected with the chess clubs via Interclub. How about getting ChessVictoria to engage the private coaching services ie Chessworld, ChessEd, ChessIdeas etc to divy up zones for schools.

For example, ChessVictoria organises that junior Interschool becomes part of Interclub. The private organisations present information to ChessVictoria about how many of there teams they want to play in the ChessVictoria event.
ChessVictoria then ensures that all schools are organised within a zone around certain clubs. ie, Elwood High is in Elwoods zone, Torquay high in Geelongs etc.
Clubs then take responsibilty for explaining to schoolchildren, what is expected in a team tournament, but more importantly, get them rated within the ChessVictoria system.
Interschool is then played under two flags, one the school flag, (very important for generating publicity,competition, players,clubs and status- important for coaching organisations) , the second a club affiliation, which, at the moment, is lacking since anybody , can and does, play for any old club ie (the cashdy bundies).

We might have to change Interclub to Saturday afternoons!
