I received an email querying the round 4 pairings.

Therefore a couple of questions.

1) Is the paring system being used Swiss Dutch FIDE (JaVaFo)?
2) Was round 4 manually paired as I don't understand why Fernandez didn't play Solomon on Board 1 if Dutch Swiss is the pairing system?

In fact they did meet in round 4. There was a second redraw due to flooding. This shows up in the Rd4 crosstable published above

Yes, I saw that.
I should have been clearer.
They showed as paired in round 4 in post #29 but when the updated pairings were shown in post #30 they are no longer paired. I was wondering how the parings in post #30 were created.

Unfortunately I cannot tell from the file what you did between posts #29 and #30 to cause the difference in the round 4 pairings shown in post #30.
I can see that you had Stewart and Richardt in the draw in post #30 but not paired in #29 and that you had the result wrong for the game between Mulholland and Hart in post #29 but those differences would have no impact on the top boards.

Congratulations to Gold Coast Junior, Byron Morris on defeating IM Brodie McClymont and drawing with GM Daniel Fernandez scoring 50% against titled players (IM / GM after 3 games)

After winning the Top Chess Xmas swiss last year and many other impressive results he has shown he is becoming a serious chess player.

Side note: It'd be great to see full results here... Thanks to Bundaberg Chess Club for running another successful tournament

If I'm not mistaken, by taking out the two players on 4.5 who qualify for the Rating group, you've cost them $90.00 each....

If they are all on 4.5pts then they should be entitled to the prize money from =2nd unless they are going to get more money from winning a rating group, which they don't...

3 players share $750.00 and get $250.00 each, whilst the two from Rating Group A split $200.00 to get $100.00 each.

If you combine the money from 2nd, 3rd and Rating Group A (given both players who would get it are a part of the group), then you have $950.00 split 5 ways giving $190.00 each.

It's actually worse than that for poor Benjamin. He only gets $70 (based on Post #1 in this thread) for coming second in his rating group. While even a five-way split of the combined second and third prizes would give him $150. And the prizes are described as "rating prizes", not "group prizes", so they are not (apparently) restricted to a specific group. But even if they were - as in Redcliffe events - they should still be divided as Andrew suggests. I know that Redcliffe does that way, because I was actually in the same situation myself!

This is the cross table by score. Unfortunately in the rush to allocate prizes so that people could leave early for the return trip south we allocated by group. Of course it is fairer to allocate en masse; and I am sure our Open group competitors will be happy for their prize pool to be so divided. The 2nd= prize allocation will be, as Andrew correctly calculated, $190. When the bank transfers are made this is the amount that will be sent, Those who took cheques will get the balance in the mail.

This post provides an update on the Bundaberg Chess Festival which incorporated GM Daniel Fernandez providing training sessions at schools in the area, a masterclass held on the Friday evening which was followed by a 19-board simultaneous and then the Bundaberg Open over the weekend of 27-28 November. The Open also saw participation by IMs Stephen Solomon and Brodie McClymont. Many of the games from this event have been compiled and the following are now available:
