Are anyone from the Olympiad teams playing any tournaments before the Olympiad?
Also not sure why Vietnam is not fielding an Open team either. Here is the chess-results link to what I am saying:

Seeded 29th and having a young ambicious team - I feel that finishing inside top 20 may be realistic! Could be (hopefully!) one of Australia's best result ever.

A top 20 performance would be a brilliant result. Australia has finished twice in the top 20, 15th in 1970 and 17th in 1976.
Our best semi recent results are 28th in 1996 and 29th in 2006.
Our team has certainly got stronger since 2006 so hopefully a better performance will follow.
Seems not so long ago Australia used to be seeded 50th or so.

I hope all of players and the captains and whoever else is heading to the Olympiad has a safe and smooth trip there.
Some photos already made it to facebook. At least some are having a great time!

Another interesting fact: our very own Jamie Kenmure is team captain for Gambia.

The pairings for the first round are out.
The Womens team play Timor Leste
The Open team play Libya
Both teams should be aiming for 4-0 results
Games start 3 pm IST which is a cozy 7:30 pm AEST. August 4 is the rest day.
