C J S Purdy was married in 1934 to Anne Crakanthorp (1915–2013), the daughter of twice Australian Chess Champion, Spencer Crakanthorp. The marriage produced two children,
John and Diana. John died in 2011. He was survived by his wife, Felicity, and their sons Colin and Michael and families.

Diana was a keen chess player. She married leading New Zealand player Frank Hutchings in 1960. They produced two daughters, Fleur and Alexandra and a son, Ross, according to the account below.
There were two other children, according to other accounts.

Magnus Victor Anderson, 1884 - 1966 was the original donor of chess literature to the State Library of Victoria.

The collection now has over 13,000 volumes of books, magazines and tournament reports. It is one of the largest chess collections in the world.

Chess sets and the Chess and Bridge Collections are available at, The Ian Potter Queen's Hall mezzanine (Level 3) from 10 am till 5:00 pm daily.

Searching for “C J S Purdy Chess Magazines” produced his extensive range of books but not his magazines. Some of his books are collections
of his instructional articles taken from his magazines.

Searching for “Chess Magazines” produced Purdy’s magazines which were generally attributed to The Australian Chess Federation plus an interesting
array of state, junior and international publications.
