The previous few posts have been about the Qld stage restrictions. You would need to research where VIC is at this point in time and time frames into the future. Victoria has been the slowest to reduce restrictions, so I would strongly recommend you find out where Victoria is at this point in time in terms of the issues we have been discussing.

The 1.5m rule is definitely the most challenging to implement. If you draw a parallel with restaurants and cafes which have the same restrictions, it's being considered that those on the same table seem to be OK (at least from my observation of several places) whilst the tables themselves are spaced out further.

Thus what Garvin said prior is quite relevant in that a trestle table with one game on it should be OK as long as there is space between games.

The venues themselves may have other guidelines, and those clubs that use schools will likely have to wait until term 3 and even then only if schools are allowing external visitors.

Weekenders are something I cannot see going ahead at this point in time due to the restriction on numbers per room.

FIDE events postponed until 2022 due to COVID restrictions

    Dear Member Federations,

Due to the many travel restrictions still in force all around the world, the FIDE Council has approved to postpone a number of events originally scheduled for 2021.

With multiple states across the world still under lockdown and uncertainty remaining around border controls, it was decided to postpone until 2022 the following international tournaments:

The World School Individual Championships 2021

    Panama City, Panama

    Postponed to 2022

    The World Youth U14, U16, U18 Championships 2021

    Mamaia, Romania

    Postponed to 2022

    The World Cadet U8, U10, U12 Championships 2021

    Batumi, Georgia

    Postponed to 2022

    The World Senior Championship 2021

    Assisi, Italy

    Postponed to 2022

The World Senior Team Championship 2021

    Acqui Terme, Italy

    Postponed to 2022

    The World Youth U14, U16, U18 Rapid & Blitz Championships 2021

    Greece

    Postponed to 2022

The World Cadet U8, U10, U12 Rapid Blitz Championships 2021

    Greece

    Postponed to 2022

The decision was made following the recommendations of the World Health Organization, national sports authorities in the hosting coutries, and concerns expressed by many participants and national federations.

As for the World Amateur Championship 2021, which is scheduled to take place in Rhodes, Greece, from October 17th to October 27th 2021, the dates will remain unchanged. However, the organizer of the tournament is obliged to request from the participants full vaccination with any of the COVID-19 vaccines or a valid negative COVID-19 test result, and regular testing, if needed for provision of COVID-security.

FIDE is also considering the possibility to postpone some remaining 2021 competitions to 2022. We will keep monitoring the situation, and an announcement will be made as soon as possible.

With the percentage of vaccinated people steadily increasing, I think it's time to start thinking about whether chess clubs and tournaments should require players to be vaccinated.

With weekend tournaments requiring people to be in the same room for many hours, often in relatively close contact, vaccination as a condition of entry - at least for adults - seems a fairly sensible policy. Clubs are less of a problem, because of the shorter exposure time, but it seems sensible for adult players to either be vaccinated (hopefully they all will be) or to wear masks.

I've replied on the more appropriate thread.

Why wouldn't it be legal? You have a right to refuse entry to any player, as long as you are not discriminating against certain groups - and the unvaccinated are not covered by any anti-discrimination legislation.

Bridge will be requiring vaccinations in 2022 for major events: " ... The ABF have mandated two covid shots before you play in ABF gold point events as at 1st January and I suppose Bridge Clubs will also have to consider the same. ... ".
