    Latest ACF newsletter

    There is an interesting arbiter problem in it. Would like some comments on it please.

    If you mean the "QUERY Posted by Daryl McDonald on MCC’s Facebook page:" it is actually extremely straightforward. A king cannot take a piece that is protected by another piece even if the other piece is pinned and could not itself legally move.

    This is specifically spelled out in the Laws of Chess:


    The king is said to be 'in check' if it is attacked by one or more of the opponent's pieces, even if such pieces are constrained from moving to the square occupied by the king because they would then leave or place their own king in check.

    No piece can be moved that will either expose the king of the same colour to check or leave that king in check.
