“The history of the 20th century is full of examples of countries that set out to redistribute wealth and ended up redistributing poverty.”
“There’s no point blaming the tragedies of socialism on the flaws or corruption of particular leaders. Any system which allows some people to exercise unbridled power over others is an open invitation to abuse, whether that system is called slavery or socialism or something else.”—Thomas Sowell

Thanks for posting all the games, Capa_Fan! Pleased to see Nigel Metge back on the NZ chess scene and having some success. Like you, he has stayed at my house in the past. For a while we were kind of related as his mum and my uncle were together.

Leading Kiwis after 5 rounds are Kirill Polishchuk and Anthony Ker who won against Russell Dive and Paul Garbett respectively. Both Polishchuk and Ker are unbeaten on 4 points as is Ben Hague with 3.5 points. On 3 points are the peloton of Bob Smith, Daniel Gong, Russell Dive, David Cillia Vincenti, Paul Garbett, Tony Dowden, John Findlay and Dylan Piwari.
Once a Kiwi, Always a Kiwi.
I assume Aus GM Darryl is leading the event.

GM Daniel Fernandez (ENG) leads on 4.5 points ahead of GM Vasily Papin (RUS), Kiril Polishchuk (NZL), IM Anthony Ker (NZL) and GM Daryl Johansen (AUS) ali on 4 points.
Once a Kiwi, Always a Kiwi.
Kirill Polishchuk is the leading Kiwi on 5 points after his win over IM Herman van Riemsdijk (BRA) in round 6. Previous co-leader Anthony Ker lost to GM Papin (RUS) to remain on 4 points. He is joined by Ben Hague, Russell Dive, Daniel Gong and Dylan Piwari.
The tournament leaders are GM Papin, GM Fernando and Polishchuk. Last year's joint winner IM Brandon Clarke (ENG) is in the peloton on 4 points.

Who is Dylan Piwari? A new name to me. What club or O/S player? Tim Reilly is a good scalp.

There are now three. Kirill Polishchuk has been joined by Anthony Ker and Ben Hague on 5 points. Kirill lost to tournament leader, GM Daniel Fernandez (ENG) while Anthony and Ben won against Dylan Piwari and Daniel Gong respectively. Russell Dive drew with IM Brandon Clarke (ENG) to be half a point behind.
Who will be the New Zealand Champion depends mostly on who plays the Grandmasters in the final two rounds. No Kiwis have taken points off Fernandez yet and he is the next opponent for Ben Hague. Ben has however drawn with GM Papin and GM Johansen so should be happy with a hat trick. It is Kirill vs GM Papin, Anthony vs GM Johansen and Russell vs IM Sandler.

Went back to post 1 link re Dylan P. UNR NZ player. Going well considering that.
