Well, you've gotta convert your chances and save your bad positions.

Goryachkina was seriously better in three playoff games and won none of them, Ju was better in one and won it.

Good enough. It was a very interesting match.
So what's your excuse? To run like the devil's chasing you.

As someone pointed out on Facebook, With Short and Hou doing the commentary, it was a case of commentators being much stronger than the players. It was interesting to watch and see who wins...but overall level of play was 2500 at best...at times...

Should also be noted that the Goryachkina team included 3 top notch trainers: Riazantsev, Rublevsky, Landa (Rublevsky used to be 2700+ himslef), she had several training sessions that ran for weeks in the lead up the match and throughout the match - she had strong support of the Russian Chess establishment. After she took lead in the match - Filatov (President of the Russian Chess Federation who also made himself captain of the Russian Men's team) announced: ''This is a historic win'' ....however the win turned out to be not that ''historic'' .

Well, 2580. No doubt Short was stronger than that at his peak, but I'm not so sure he could reliably expect to win a match against as 2580 player these days. Certainly his commentary standard didn't really inspire confidence of it.
