This one was quite interesting in that white has several promising first moves, but black can seem to thwart them all.
1.Qa2 threatening both Qc4# and Qd5# can be met with ...e2+ and ...Be6 stopping white from mating on the third move.
1.Qc2 threatening both Qd3# or Qe4# can be met with ...Be6 and with e2+ again forestalls mate.
1.Qe2 threatening both Qd3# and Qc4# is met by ...Bb5 and again e2+ prevents mate by the 3rd move.
    1.Qh1 threatening both Qe4# and Qd5# black has Bc6 and e2+.

However white can first play 1.Ke1! and now black has no way to pass and keep an eye on all those defences. Eg if 1...Bxe8 Qe2 and black can no longer play ...Bxf5 and stop the mate threats. Likewise 1.Ke1 Bxf5 2.Qe2 mating. If black instead passes with the other bishop, Eg 1.Ke1 Bxa3 2.Qc2 and now white also threatens mate on c3. The threats cannot all be met.

One piece here is extremely important. Try to figure out why

Looks like the white king is very important since it blocks the e-pawn and that prevents all the black pieces from unravelling. Example line 1.d6+ dxe6 2.Na3+ Kb3 3.dxe7 Kxa3 4.e8=Q and I don't think white has anything better than harrassing the black king, with a draw. If white ever tries to bring the king into the fray with Kd2, black can go e1=Q ++ and his pieces will come out pretty quickly, winning.

There is still a way to kill with just the queen, if the king somehow gets into an inconvenient hole. You can stalemate the king, forcing the pawns to move, you should take some to create the hole, then later on get the king out of a1, eventually moving him over to a8, then h8. Now there is an idea to force the king down the board for the execution, once you find it you should see what the problem could be, which shows you the importance of a certain piece.

Not so difficult, but don’t stop calculating until you’re certain black is lost

This time Iíll give a different kind of problem.
Black has three pawns and a king, white has only a king. You can place all the pieces wherever you like, except the pawns cannot be on the same file. Try to set up a position where itís black to move, but white can make a draw

I'm assuming none of the pawns can be on the same file as each other, otherwise it's too easy. Interesting puzzle. (Don't have the answer yet.)

If it's white to move, something like this works:

    FEN Viewer

Not sure how to do it with black to move.
