Australian Under 12 Open and Under 12 Girls Champions

    Hi all,
Trying to build a record of the names of kids who won these titles... any assistance is welcome as there seems to be a distinct lack of offical records kept... (or maybe I just canít find them).

There is indeed a distinct lack of official records kept - the ACF records the U18 winners but the U12 may be more difficult.

In this forum the Completed Tournaments section will generally have threads for events back to the start of this forum (2004), however in some cases the thread may link to a defunct website. Using the Wayback machine (web.archive.org) may assist in finding an old copy of that website.

The ACF Newsletter is another source that should be useful. ACF newsletters 1999-2004 are indexed here: http://auschess.org.au/acf-newsletter-archive/ An archive of a previous ACF website with archiving through to 2012 is here: https://web.archive.org/web/20180313....au/bulletins/ but I am not sure if all the sidebar links work. Also https://web.archive.org/web/20180310...letter/2012-2/ works for 2012-8 (replace 2012 in URL with year desired) except for 2015 which is at https://web.archive.org/web/20180310...ter/news-2015/

Before 1999 I suspect the records would be in paper magazines if anywhere.

I directed 2010, the winners were Andrew Pan and Savithri Narenthran.

In the old days of U18 and U12 tournaments rather than separate events for each two-year age group it sometimes happened that super-strong U12s would play in the U18, eg Anton Smirnov did so that year.

1998 is online here. The U12 winners were Zong Yuan Zhao and Catherine Lip.

Tournament reports from the events might be worth investigating - it's possible someone has already compiled a list of previous winners.

I don't have a full record, but I remember that I won the 2004 Under 12 Open Championship with 8.5/11, winning a playoff vs. Angela Song (2.5-1.5). Deborah Ng won the 2004 Under 12 Girls Championship.

There are some not entirely complete junior records on the old AJCL web site - now http://australianjuniorchess.org.au/ as it is undergoing an overhaul to become an AJC site.

Thanks. Those (http://australianjuniorchess.org.au/...nior-champions) cover the time frame mentioned in my post so my post can now be largely ignored.
