Interesting game. Pert was winning in the middlegame with Ps for the exchange plus Smirnov's exposed K. But he allowed White to escape into an endgame where he was outplayed. I don't think Pert saw Smirnov's accurate winning technique of driving the K away from the K-side Ps and cutting it off, so White could return and exchange R for BP with the BK too far away.

Smirnov is on 4/4 and facing fellow prodigy Praggnanandhaa R. (GM 2586). As of W17, the computer says that Smirnov has equalized on the Black side of a Petrov. [Edit: they agreed a draw after this move.]

Pragg passed 2600 live at age 14. Seems like Anton will also pass 2600 this tournament, worth noting that Anton is currently 10/11 since arriving in Europe with only 4 opponents being rated below 2400 and only one being below 2200.
