It has been a while since there has been a teams tournament in Victoria therefore we are trying to get that event going.

Please see details below.

2019 Teams Open at Noble Park Chess Club

A 6 Round Swiss Tournament ACF Rated !!!

Venue: Paddy O’Donoghue Centre, 18-34 Buckley St, Noble Park 3174( plenty of parking
available and 2 minutes walk from the train station)

Format: 4 players in a team, boards 1 to 4 will be ranked in rating order based on March
2019 ACF rating list. Teams may have more than 4 players registered.

Points: 3 points per team win, 1 points for team draw and 0 points for team loss

Entry fees: $160 per team with $120 per team for Noble Park teams

Prizes( based on 7 teams entering)
Winning team: 1 st $400 2 nd $300
Rating group prize: $100

There will also be medals for the best percentage score on each of the 4 boards. To be
eligible, a player must be registered on the given board number, and play 5 or 6 games, the
majority of which must be on that board. Games played on a lower board won't count
towards the relevant score for calculating a board prize, but games played on higher boards
will.

Starting time: 3 p.m. sharp on all playing days

Rate of play: 60 minutes + 30 sec per move

There have been some questions asked regarding having extra players registered in a team.

We wanted to clarify that whilst there will be 4 players playing on the day it is fine to have more than 4 players registered with the extra players being substitute players. We understand that the same 4 players may not be available Saturday which is why a team can have extra players registered for that scenario.

I hope this has clarified that query for the people that have had this question.

To clarify about the rule for reserves and substitutions: we will be publishing the draw each week on Friday morning. If one or more players are unavailable for a round, then teams will be allowed to substitute any player who has not already played for another team, just so long as we are informed by Thursday night of what the team lineup will be. It is not necessary to announce reserve players before round 1, though it is advisable to have a player or two in mind who could be called in if needed.

Another point: we have decided to be flexible about board ordering as long as the difference between players is not more than 50 rating points (so it's OK for board 1 to be rated lower than board 2, as long as the difference is less than 50 points).

Agreed. Would it be on Sundays rather than Saturdays (allegro day) and a rapid time limit, I would possibly (if work permits) put together an MCC team.

Some teams now have five players and will rotate a bye, or share the games in some other way. At the moment there are 6 teams, assuming no new teams enter we will hold a lightning tournament instead of round 6 (22nd June), with free entry for teams entrants!

Thanks to all those who helped the event get off to a successful start today!

We are scoring match wins as 3-0 and match draws as 1-1, so that is what is shown above each match below (the specific scores based on board results are different, and shown in brackets on the right; this will be used for
tiebreaks).

There were some interesting matches today, including a draw between the closely matched NPCC Team 'D' and NPCC Team Cron (who respectively had Dom and Jensen sitting out for round 1) and a 3.5-0.5 win for Mentone which included three of the four longest games of the round.

The results for round 1 and team pairings for round 2 can be seen by following the link on our website at http://nobleparkchess.org.au/CurrentTournaments.html , the board pairings are only provisional. After some discussions today we agreed that it would be good to publish final pairings by Thursday morning rather than Friday morning, so please aim to confirm your team lineup to myself or Dom by Wednesday night (this can be done on the thread here too). Remember that the first-named team has White on board 1.

This was the last game to finish, and the only draw of the round. Tom looked to be in some trouble towards the end but found a very accurate move 58...Rg8! to save the ending; 59 Rb2 would then have been more testing but after 59...Kc4 60 f6 Re8+ 61 Kf7 Ra8 62 Kg7 Ra2 63 f7 Rxb2 64 f8=Q Rc2! the position is a tablebase draw!

One other change - because we have 5 rounds now, the flyer's information about the board prizes is outdated, to win a board prize you have to play a minimum of 4 games rather than 5, and to be eligible for the board prize at least 3 of the games must be played on the relevant board.
